Dear Raleigh County Schools Parents and Guardians, On Monday, April 8, 2024, it is anticipated between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM that our region will experience a partial solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves between the sun and Earth, blocking all or a portion of the sun’s rays. Medical professionals advise it is always dangerous to look directly at the sun without appropriate eye protection. Out of an abundance of caution, Raleigh County Schools (RCS) will be taking extra steps for your child’s safety. •RCS will follow a regular schedule on Monday, April 8, 2024. •All schools have been encouraged to share the solar eclipse viewing experience with students by utilizing television feeds or internet live streams. •Resources and lessons about the solar eclipse are available from the West Virginia Department of Education, NASA, and other science outlets. •School staff will advise students of the dangers of looking directly at the sun at any time, especially during the solar eclipse. •Students will not be permitted outside for any activities other than those planned and approved by the principal during the hours of 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This includes recess, athletics, band or other outdoor after school activities. •As students are dismissed, staff will be on hand to instruct students not to look directly at the sun and to monitor as they exit the building. The eclipse may occur during dismissal time. RCS asks parents to reinforce the dangers of looking at the sun and to remind their children not to look directly at the sun on their way home from school on Monday, April 8, 2024. We appreciate your understanding and support during this unique learning experience and ask that you talk with your children about the eclipse prior to school on Monday, April 8.

Flying Eagle families, we have ran into issues with our jotform link for online absence excuses. Jotform limits our monthly submissions. To alleviate, we have created a GoogleDoc link to achieve the same purpose. Please disregard the previous jotform link and use the following GoogleDoc link. The link has also been updated on the schools webpage to avoid any further confusion. Thank you for your patience as we work to develop this long term solution. Again, please use the link below... https://docs.google.com/forms/d/159GVDa53cvSnrtqkXM19I5WakwG0xIIZam6pmIwFjtM/edit?usp=drivesdk

Flying Eagle Families, at approximately 8:40 this morning we were tasked with responding to a medical emergency in our main hall way. As a precaution, students and teachers were evacuated to the gymnasium and auditorium when EMS deemed it safe and appropriate to do so. Students will be returned to class shortly and WWHS will remain on regular schedule. Thank you for your patience as we we worked to focus our attention on our students.

WWHS Parents and Students: Tomorrow, December 6th, all students will participate in a career exploration survey that will take roughly 20 minutes during their Links class. Please make sure that your student has their device charged. This survey plays an important role in planning future classes and assisting students with decision making as they approach post-high school opportunity. Parents, we encourage you to have a conversation with your student(s) regarding what career areas they excel in based on the aforementioned survey. We look forward to speaking with our students about their career clusters! - WWHS Counseling Dept.

Flying Eagle Families: Please note that middle and elementary age students WILL NOT be permitted to attend WWHS athletic events without being accompanied by an adult. This, of course, does not apply to WWHS students. Again, for our home football game this Friday, as well as all athletic events forthcoming, middle and high school age students will not be permitted entry without an accompanying adult. Parents are responsible for making sure their elementary and middle school students are seated with their accompanying adult throughout the duration of the athletic event. Thank you as we work to provide a safe and entertaining event.
